What does yesterday's Quordle answer mean?
Reveal the meanings (contains spoilers)
Yesterday's Quordle answers are JOIST, CROOK, DELAY, and ICILY. JOIST opens the top-left board, a horizontal timber that supports a floor, with five clean unique letters. CROOK sits top-right, a bend like the bending of a knee, and the board that doubles its O. DELAY fills the bottom-left, putting something off until later, with five clean unique letters. ICILY closes the set bottom-right, in a cold and uncaring manner, and the board that doubles its I.
How hard is yesterday's Quordle?
Difficulty: Medium
Yesterday's Classic boards share a useful shortcut: the letters O, I and L each appear on two of the four boards, so a guess rich in those letters pays you back on half the puzzle at once. Two boards repeat a letter within themselves, so greens lock their slots at once on the other two. Open with two coverage words, bank the easy boards early, and keep one guess in reserve for the board that still hides its second vowel.

What is Quordle?
Quordle was created by Freddie Meyer and launched in early 2022 during the Wordle boom. It takes the same guessing formula and stretches it across four boards at once, with nine shared guesses to solve them all.
In January 2023, Merriam-Webster acquired Quordle, bringing it under the dictionary publisher's games umbrella. The game offers a daily puzzle where everyone gets the same four words, plus practice mode for unlimited random rounds. It is free to play in the browser, and its daily streak tracking keeps regulars coming back every morning.
How do you play Quordle?
- You get 9 guesses to solve four five-letter words at the same time. Type any valid five-letter word and submit it.
- Your guess lands on each unsolved board at once. Each board colors its letters green, yellow, or gray based on its own hidden word.
- Green means the letter is correct and in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else. Gray means it is not in that board's word.
- Track each board separately. A letter can be green on one board and gray on another, so read all four before your next guess.
- Solve all four words before your 9 guesses run out. Solved boards lock in and stop taking up attention.
What are the best Quordle strategies?
- Start with a coverage word, not a lucky guess. With four boards and nine guesses, your opener should test five fresh common letters. Information now beats a miracle later.
- Lean on the shared letters: O, I and L each appear on two Classic boards, so a guess carrying them tells you something useful on half the puzzle at once.
- Close the easy boards first. The everyday words are built from very ordinary letters and give themselves away quickly. Banking them frees your remaining guesses for the stubborn board.
- Do not chase one board. Spending three guesses on a single stubborn board while the others sit half-solved is how nine guesses disappear before the last word lands.
- Keep one spare guess. Quordle loves an ending where three boards are solved and the last one needs a careful, deliberate final word.

Frequently asked questions
How many guesses do you get in Quordle?
You get 9 guesses in the daily game, and each guess applies to all four boards at once. That is only a little more than double the guesses for four times the words, so each guess has to earn its keep. Plan your openers and do not spend guesses chasing a single board.
Who created Quordle?
Quordle was created by Freddie Meyer and launched in 2022 during the Wordle craze. He took the familiar color-feedback formula and multiplied it across four simultaneous boards. It became one of the most popular Wordle variants, sitting directly between Dordle and Octordle in difficulty.
How is Quordle different from Octordle?
Quordle gives you 9 guesses for 4 boards, while Octordle gives 13 guesses for 8 boards. Quordle is the friendlier middle ground: fewer boards to track, but also fewer spare guesses. If Wordle feels too easy and Octordle feels like chaos, Quordle is the sweet spot.
What is Quordle practice mode?
Practice mode gives you unlimited random Quordle puzzles outside the daily challenge. It works exactly like the daily game, four boards and nine guesses, but the words are different each round and your streak is not affected. It is the best way to sharpen your multi-board skills.
What happens if you run out of guesses in Quordle?
If your 9 guesses run out before all four boards are solved, the game ends and reveals the words you missed. Your streak resets to zero. To avoid that, do not burn multiple guesses on a nearly solved board, and always test for doubled letters before your final attempts.
